Yard Sale Score of the Week!!

I found this on Saturday, maybe a half-mile from my house, along with a copy of the Ohio Express lp, and an Eagles of Death Metal 10 inch. That’s some eclectic tastes right there. I would not have believed that there was someone in my town in possession of a Dictators record, who had not been given said record by me, had I not seen it with my own eyes.

Give credit where credit is due – the previous owners played this thing to death, as it’s completely hacked to sh*t!

More G’days From Down Under

As a follow-up to our previous post about the Australia tour, here’s a great shot from the 8/25/02 Sydney Harbour Cruise of the Handsome One exchanging a “good onya”’ with Bill Gibson of the Eastern Dark.

The Eastern Dark was a fantastic Australian band back in the 1980s, whose “Johnny and Dee-Dee” 45 belongs in every music library that’s worth a toss. They used to cover “Minnesota Strip” back in their early days, and were gobsmacked when the Master Plan returned the honor by covering “Walking” on their first lp.

Many thanks to Bill Gibson for the use of the photo, and for the Aussie spell check on “Harbour.”

Irene 1, Del Lords 0

Trees down. Roads closed. Power lost. Basements flooded. Del Lords cancelled.

Yup, stupid Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene put the kibosh on what would have been a kick-a** bash Saturday at the Roots Hoot House Concert in Peace Dale, RI.

Luckily, Tuesday’s gig at the Lakeside, disguised as “The Elvis Club,” gives us an opportunity to catch them before they leave for this weekend’s gigs at the Turbo Rock Festival in Spain.

The Thunder Down Under!!

This week in 2002 found our heroes entertaining the Blokes and Sheilas on their first, and to date, only tour of the world’s biggest prison colony. The 4-piece line-up (Scott was temporarily on the roof) roared through 9 dates over a 10-day period, culminating with a quick stop in New Zealand to placate the Sheepshaggers.

Way, way up there on the “list of gigs I wish I’d seen” would be their date from this tour when they played a Sydney Harbor Cruise. I can picture the Harbormaster having to haul the captain in on a littering violation because of the Fosters cans clogging the bay in the wake of the ship.

Pics are courtesy of the Barman at the I-94 site.

There Will Be No Banging on THIS Toy!!

If you’re searching for a gift idea for that certain special someone in the next holiday season, then there’s really no need to look any further than the upcoming Handsome Dick Manitoba bobble-head doll. Aggronautix Toys’ fall release of a limited edition 9-inch version of the Handsome One will immortalize him with other such glitterati as GG Allin, Milo from the Descendents, and Roky Erikson. All preserved forever via the art of bobble.

The news of this pending arrival sent the staff at DFFD Headquarters scurrying to find space on the tchotchke shelf. The BOC cowbell, the Spinal Tap codpiece, the Bun E. brand back truss, and the Maybe Elvis toenail have been rearranged to accommodate their new roomie.

With that job in the rear-view mirror, we can now turn our attention to the more important matter at hand, namely — just what is this thing gonna LOOK like? We’ve seen many different looks from HDM over the years: Jewfro, clean-cut, blues patch, do-rag, buff and not so buff. Those are probably too many options to choose from, so we’ve narrowed the possibilities down to what we think are the top 3 choices.

Here is one artist’s imagining of what the bobble-head will most likely resemble:

Option 1: An iconic look, first album-era Manitoba in his high school wrestling togs.

Option B: Another popular look, here we have wrestling jacket Manitoba. The sculptor may have to trim those guns down just a smidge.

Finally, we have Option 3: The buff HDM of the 90’s and 00’s.

Which one is YOUR fave??

‘Life’s Rich Pageant’ Is Here!

The wait is over. “Life’s Rich Pageant,” JP “Thunderbolt” Patterson’s new smash summer single, is finally out. Back in the day, I would have been pacing the sidewalk in front of my local record store, with a fist full of ones, to grab a new release. Today, through the magic of the Interwebs, it’s available right here from Drug Front Records, for my favorite price — FREE.

Personally endorsed by our own Top Ten, Manifest Destiny plays their farewell gig on Tuesday July 26 at the Starline in Fresno.

YouTube Tuesday: Cleveland 2002

Is there any more beautiful sight than the four guys rocking out gathered together at the front of the stage?

(NB: This is a rhetorical question. Please don’t spam me with pix from Adriana Lima’s new Victoria’s Secret shoot. I’ve already seen them all.)

Thanks to Chip Zepp for the video!
